No matter what type of baseball card makes your heart flutter the most, you’re likely to find at least a representative or two in the list of the most expensive sales on eBay last week (full list at bottom of post).

Willie Mays? Hank Aaron? Shoheai Ohtani? Jackie Robinson?

Check. Check. Check. Check. With multiple entries from all of them, to boot.

There’s also a T210 Old Mill card, some 2023 bling, and even a PSA 10 “common” from the black-bordered 1971 Topps set.

A couple of Babe Ruths, too. About the only standby you won’t find below is Mickey Mantle. But you know he’ll be back in the rare hobby air soon.

The Mick always comes back.

And then there are the types of cards that where never really there in the first place…

Is There Any Hope for 1991 Fleer?

For my money, 1991 Fleer was one of the ugliest sets ever made — but that’s just a subjective judgment, of course. If you want to collect cardboard bananas, go for it.

And, truth be told, there were plenty of collectors who enjoyed this set 33 years ago, and the set still has some fans today.

Ah, but are any 1991 Fleer cards actually worth anything?

Well, you can see from the video above that there are buyers for at least a few of the cards. And we can also run 1991 Fleer through the “pandemic gains” gambit, as we’ve done for other sets recently.

I went ahead and completed that exercise, comparing pre-pandemic values with more recent values of PSA 10 copies of the 10 or so most active 1991 Fleer cards. As usual, “value” is a swag based on sales reported in the PSA Auction Prices Realized tool.

Overall, these cards saw about a 150% increase in value over the last four years. That’s pretty much in line with the other sets we’ve looked at. Better than some, worse than some others.

But let’s be real — nobody is clamoring to send their 1991 Fleer cards in to be graded. I mean, obviously some folks are submitting them, or these PSA 10s wouldn’t exist, but it takes a special circumstance for a collector to part with $20 (and on up, depending on service level) in the hopes they’ll get a $25 card back someday.

So how much are raw 1991 Fleer cards bringing on the open market?

A quick search on eBay just now revealed that:

About 300 raw 1991 Fleer cards sold in eBay auctions in the last 90 days
Most of them were autographed
The biggest price tag for a raw, non-autographed 1991 Fleer with more than one bid was $3.01 for the Bonds/Griffey number — with a whopping four bids.
Other copies of that card sold for around a buck

The takeaway? Base 1991 Fleer baseball cards aren’t worth much in most cases. Their lot in life is the commons bin and the Sharpie line.

And you can be pretty sure the story wouldn’t be much different for any issue from the Junk Wax era.
