The 2022 Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremonies took place in Cooperstown yesterday, one of the mileposts of summer and a special day for every baseball fan, no matter where your team alliances lie.

This year saw the celebration of seven new inductees: Bud Fowler, Gil Hodges, Jim Kaat, Minnie Minoso, Tony Oliva, Buck O’Neil, and David Ortiz.

Only Ortiz made the cut on the basis of the annual writers’ vote, with the others gaining election by virtue of some incarnation of the Veterans’/Eras Committees.

Those non-writer votes always feature at least some element of surprise, and that often tumbles down to the baseball card market.

And that can mean a sudden jump in prices for the players involved.
