Most Expensive Football Cards Sold on eBay in March 2024

Last month, no one could hold a candle to the Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes when it came to the top-selling cards in the football card market.

But March is generally a pretty quiet month for the NFL, with most of the news coming in the form of Combine performances and moves of the free agent and trade variety.

Would Mahomes break through the relative quiet of early spring and maintain his hold at the top of the market? Or would there be room for others to make their marks?

Well, here are the players who appear more than once on the list of the most expensive football cards sold on eBay during March 2024:

Tom Brady - 22 appearances
C.J. Stroud - 10 appearances
Patrick Mahomes - 8 appearances
Joe Burrow - 7 appearances
Brock Purdy - 4 appearances
Walter Payton - 3 appearances
Anthony Richardson - 3 appearances
Jim Brown - 2 appearances
John Elway - 2 appearances
Justin Herbert - 2 appearances
Jalen Hurts - 2 appearances

Well then.

This list certainly represents some jostling over what we saw in the February market.

Not only did Mahomes slip out of the top spot, he slid all the way to third place, registering 23 fewer top-level sales month-over-month. That’s pretty surprising, to me at least, but doubly so when you consider that now-year-long-retired Tom Brady dominates this list.

Seems like old times, huh?

On that theme — old times, that is — we also got a decent dose of other retired players above: Payton, Brown, Elway. Add in single appearances by Payton Manning, Randy Moss, Lawrence Taylor, and Barry Sanders, and we’re partying like it’s 1999 (or 1993 in Taylor’s case).

At the same time, Josh Allen, Jordan Love, Will Levis, and Tua Tagovailoa fell out of our “standings” above.

Will April’s draft further shake up the top of the football card market? Almost surely in the long run, but we’ll have to wait at least a month to start getting our first feel for that.

Great post! It's interesting that two running backs are among those on that list (Walter Payton and Jim Brown). I say that because this hobby is relatively down on most RBs -- it's usually QB or Bust! But there are certain RBs who are above that mantra. Payton, Brown, and Barry Sanders, specifically. It's a surprise to me that LaDainian Tomlinson isn't one of those guys. Also, random thought, I feel like O.J. Simpson would be among that Payton/Brown/Sanders group, had he not made some horrible decisions.
