Seems like there’s history in the offing just about everywhere you turn in the NHL these days.

In Boston, the Bruins just reached 100 points in a season faster than any team ever has before.

Down in Washington, the Capitals may be struggling in the standings, but Alexander Ovechkin will probably be within 80 goals of Wayne Gretzky’s all-time mark of 894 by the time you read this. That’s less than two full seasons of “normal” Ovechkin production, in case you’re wondering.

And out in Edmonton, Gretzky’s old stomping grounds, young Connor McDavid has the Oilers right in the thick of the playoff hunt. And, oh yeah, as I write this, he’s scored multiple goals in five straight games, one of just five players to pull off that feat.

No surprise, then, really, that all of these big on-ice stories play a role in our monthly “standings” at the top of the hockey card market.
