One of the articles picks and discuss the 50 most important cards in the hobby. Here is one of those entries …
Thirty years on, we know that Ryan would last just one more year AND that his RC really is something akin to the ‘52 Mantle for collectors of a certain generation.
But that line about no other modern card reaching the $3000 plateau?
Same deal for eBay sold listings, the PSA price guide, and the weekly archives of this newsletter.
All of which is to say that it’s tough to foresee emerging market forces like the effect grading would have on prices, the 1:1 craze and collectors’ willingness to pony up for those (made-up) rarities, global pandemics, and the like.
But it’s always fun — and instructive — to reach back and remember where we’ve been.
