This week’s Market Report is cooking and will be served up hot and toasty as usual on Friday. In the meantime, I thought you might be interested in a glimpse at how the hobby fits into the overall ecommerce landscape.
Earlier this week, Marketplace Pulse released their annual list of the top 100 eBay sellers across all sectors, with musicmagpie leading the way at 36,000,000 lifetime sales and coming in second with nearly 3 million sales in the last year.
But even among such heavy hitters, the hobby is well represented …
COMC ranks as the 11th overall seller in terms of volume in the last 12 months, moving 847,000 lots.
Greg Morris Cards is hot on their heels in 12th place, with 765,000 lots.
Meanwhile, Probstein comes in 16th (566,000) with Burbank Sports Cards rounding out the hobby-only entries at 25th (426,000).
And then there are some others who count collectible-ish offerings among their sales: consider the hobby books available through Discover Books and ThriftBooks, for example.
Suffice it to say, eBay wouldn’t be the giant it is without baseball cards … and the modern hobby would look a lot different without eBay in the game.
