I just happened to notice that Nomar Garciaparra turns 50 today, which feels like some sort of impossible cosmic joke. But a quick check of the facts shows that it’s true.
So I wondered how his 1992 Topps Traded rookie card was doing on the market these days — in case you forgot, that was the Team USA card that got most of the hobby attention once Nomar arrived with the Red Sox in 1996.
A quick glance at the eBay sold listings (affiliate link) shows that first Nomar trading hands at around $50 this month (July 2023) for copies in PSA 10 condition. But you can find nice unslabbed versions selling for $5 or less.
It’s a far cry from where we thought Nomar’s cardboard was headed back when he, Derek Jetere, and Alex Rodriguez all looked like Cooperstown locks, but it’s still not nothing. And I guess a .333 average isn’t all that bad when it comes to baseball anyway, right?
YES, MORE like the one of NOMAR!
